Le TOHOUNHWE/ The TOHOUNHWE Ceremony

Le TOHOUNHWE fait partie des rares  cérémonies qui s’organisent dans la communauté Vodunwindo. Il consiste à faire plusieurs sacrifices aux différentes divinités pour purifier le pays de ses impuretés et demander la bénédiction des Dieux  sur le pays. The TOHOUNHWE Ceremony is one of the rare ceremonies that are held in th Voodoowindo  community. It consists of making several sacrifices to the divinities in order to purify the region and ask for the blessing of the divinities or gods.

Au palais de sa Majesté DAAGBOHOUNON,  la dernière édition  de cette cérémonie remonte  vers les années 1990.   Pour l’organisation de l’édition 2011, plusieurs couvents Vodun  étaient invités au palais  de DAAGBOHOUN. On pouvait noter : Le DAN (Serpent), Le HEVIOSSO (Dieu du tonnerre et de la),  foudre,  SAPKATA (Dieu de la Variole et de la terre), OGOU (Dieu du fer)  The most recent performance of this ceremony was held in the palace of His Majesty DAAGBOHOUNON some time in the 1990s.  Several voodoo convents were invited to the DAAGBOHOUNON OGOU Palace to help organize the performance of this ceremony in 2011.  Among those present were representatives from the convents that worship :DAN (The Serpent), HEVIOSSO (God of Thunder and Lightning), SAKPATA (God of Smal-lpox) and OGOU (God of Iron),

Les Motifs d’organisation du TOHOUNHWE/The Organizational Pattern of The  TOHOUNHWE Ceremony

Lorsque le  malaise gagne les compartiments de la communauté, et le mal  s’impose et prend de la hauteur (Inondation, Famine, épidémie, assassinat, les menaces d’une guerre)  l’oracle du FA prédit une purification de la communauté. Par là le FA définie  la période d’organisation  du TOHOUNHWE. When a feeling of unease runs throughout the community and evil takes the upper hand (floods, epidemics, famine, assassinations, threats of war), the oracle of the FA calls for the purification of the community.  Then the FA sets the period for the organization of The TOHOUNHWE Ceremony.

Spectacle du TOHOUNHWE

Après les rituels et les cérémonies, les adeptes des différents couvents invités au TOHOUNHWE  vont se produire en spectacle populaire de chants, danses et litanies sacrés en présence des chefs Vodun, du public composé des communautaires et des étranges. La musique Vodun  est une musique bien codée compréhensible  qu’aux initiés.. After the rituals and the ceremonies, the faithful from the different convents that were invited will produce a popular spectacle with chants dances and sacred litanies for the Voodoo chiefs.
